In India, recited Sanskrit mantras called mantra japas are often chanted aloud or silently 108 times along with the help of mala beads. Mantras have existed for thousands of years tracing back to the Vedic period in India as well as in Japan, China, and other countries across the globe. Thus the term mantra, translates to “instrument of thoughts.” The Sanskrit word “mantra” comes from the root man-meaning to think, and tra-meaning tools or instruments. I needed something-anything-to get me out of this funk, and so I typed in the words, “mantra for obstacles” into Google. I found the mantra at a time when everything was just going wrong and I couldn’t catch a break. So I bow to the divine wisdom and teacher within – Ong namo guru dev namo.I never knew the power of chanting until I found an ancient Sanskrit mantra that changed the course of my life. You just have to take a minute to hear/feel it’s message to YOU…. This is a message of love given to him by the ocean.Įverything is saying something, the plastic butterfly sticker, the trees, the ocean. This poem below was written by a friend of mine I met at Yandara. So I wanted to share this one last thing. So what do these San Francisco trees say? Well…I’m not sure yet….but is it just coincidence that when I opened my email this was waiting for me? Be true to yourself…even when the world around you is constantly changing, your consistency and strength is part of your beauty. But the message of the little plastic butterfly sticker told me exactly what I needed to hear during all this change. Now of course I want to be present, and soak up what there is to offer everywhere I go. ” Be true to yourself…even when the world around you is constantly changing, your consistency and strength is part of your beauty.”įor me personally, I am transitioning out of grad school, and taking classes/ traveling/ working in Mexcio, California, Colorado, and Fiji this summer….gezzz…I can easily get lost in the travel and change…there’s a lot going on. And then it just came to me….like lightening. I was looking at a shimmering butterfly print in the window (still and beautiful), and also seeing the palm trees that were swaying behind it outside. So I tried it….I focused on one image and waited for it’s meaning. Finding messages in our direct surroundings. Something that really rang strong for me there was when we learned and discussed about holistic approaches to life by connecting to the world around us. And then I see the trees…I am taken back to a little activity we did at Yandara. Yet at the same time all the smart phones, businessuits and starbucks on literally every corner remind me of how easy it is to get caught up in commotion that life unfolds sometimes. All types of shapes/personalities/and ages walking/rolling/driving by as the cable cars screech and puff their way down the street. There is a woman across the way selling hand made hats and a man singing his heart out playing the guitar. So here I am sitting at a coffee shop in the beautiful city of SF at the moment, just people watching.
